There are several different techniques I can apply during massage therapy to secure the desired effect.
The thumb technique is very important in massage, not only for assessing the structures that need to be treated, but also for palpations. Thumb technique uses:
- Drainage of small or localised areas
- Stretch fibres
- Friction scar tissue
- Release trigger points
- Make investigative palpations and assessments

The Elbow Technique is used for stress points or trigger points on large muscle groups. In this technique, I would use my elbow to apply heavier pressure over these as required. The stress points and trigger points would first be detected with my fingers or thumbs.

Trigger Point Technique is used to release and drain trigger points. Trigger points are a toxin buildup in the belly of the muscle usually occurring from muscle tension or nervous stress. Poor circulation can also cause trigger points. The process could take 2 or 3 minutes for more chronic trigger points, however, if they are recently formed, they may release after just a few seconds.
