Equine Sports and Rehabilitation Massage (ESM) is a complementary therapy that can be used for maintenance, general well-being and enhanced performance. It is often used in association with other therapies and professionals such as veterinarians, chiropractors, physiotherapists, farriers, and saddlers.
It is a hands-on application of recognised massage techniques, adapted to be used on the horse for the purpose of increasing circulation, range of movement and improving overall health and performance. It also helps to reduce the chances of injury and speed up the healing process when an injury occurs.

- Uses a range of professional techniques including muscle energy techniques, fascia manipulation, active and passive stretches.
- Works on almost all of the muscles and soft tissues, but also affects the skin and many other systems such as the nervous, skeletal, circulatory and lymphatic systems.
- It’s extremely effective in examining the musculoskeletal system. A therapist can feel, find and relieve muscle spasms/tension even before the signs become obvious.
- Covers the whole body, relieving muscle tension and compensatory tension. This allows the horse to function at their best.
- Treating conditions from back pain to stiffness; preparing your horse for competition; assisting recovery and relaxation after competition; relaxing nervous equines, making handling easier/gaining trust; maintaining range of movement in veterans.
