Pre event massage
It is undertaken before a competition or sporting performance. It is a short and specific massage treatment. It helps to warm up and loosen muscles at a vast pace in preparation for activity and optimum performance. Stimulate the nervous system effectively “waking up” the muscles, preparing your horse for the actual physical warm-up needed before competing.
Once complete the horse can be tacked up immediately ready for a final physical warm-up. It takes Approx 20 mins.
- Help lethargic horses by stimulating the circulatory system and increasing the blood flow and flow of oxygen to the brain and muscles aiding alertness and responsiveness.
- Helps to relax anxious, stressed horses by acting on their nervous system and by stimulating natural pain-reducing endorphins.

Post Event Massage
This technique encourages the horse to recover much more quickly and helps release tight muscles and loosen muscle tissue.
It also helps the removal of toxins from the body such as lactic acid and metabolic by-products.
This massage can also alleviate the delayed onset of muscle soreness it also helps to relax and refresh the horse’s well-being.
Approx 30 mins. Best performed 4 to 48 hours after competition.
- Applied when the horse has cooled down, it helps reduce any muscle spasms and metabolic build-up
- Focusing on muscle, tendon and ligament manipulation
- Aids relaxation and mental calmness
- Hands-on manipulation initially checks the body for injury, tightness or spasms. The soft tissues are manipulated to stimulate blood and lymph supply to aid the removal of toxins and aid repair of damaged tissues and muscles.
- Endorphins are released to aid relaxation which also acts as a natural painkiller
- Stress points/spasms are released to enable muscle fibres to relax, encourage suppleness and repair if necessary
- Excess fluid in legs or joints (oedema) can also be dispersed
